Cinecon 48 in Pictures

Here are a few pictures from the Cinecon 48 Career Achievement Award banquet held on September 2, 2012. At the event awards were presented to actors Phyllis Coates and Carleton Carpenter and writer/director Richard L. Bare. (Samantha Eggar, who was unable to attend the banquet received her award at a film screening on Saturday).

After the meal ragtime pianist Frederick Hodges opened the award portion of the evening with a medley of great old songs. Cinecon President Robert S. Birchard made a few opening remarks before turning the show over to M.C. Stan Taffel.

Stan began by introducing the celebrities in attendance and then he brought up the first presenter. Linda was happy to present the award to Richard L. Bare. They met when he directed her in the TV show Petticoat Junction

Bare was clearly having a good time at the banquet and thanked Cinecon. Richard and Linda display his award.

Jack Larson has been friends with Phyllis Coates for over 60 years. He had so many nice things to say about her before bringing her up for the award.

During her presentation she brought Carleton up for an impromptu duet much to the audience's delight. When Carleton got up to speak he had so many nice things to say about Cinecon before thanking us for his award.

Here are some other highlights from our wonderful weekend of films and fun at Cinecon 48.

Thursday   It was a busy first night. Clockwise from upper left: a lot of people started their Cinecon weekend by shopping in the dealers rooms; then the registration opened at 5:00; Murray Glass at the podium to introduce film clips during his special show at the hotel; several authors were on hand to sign books during registration, Steve Siporin with Crazy, Crazy Hollywood, Chuck Harter with Little Elf A Celebration of Harry Langdon, Suzanne Ferry with The Day The Stars Stood Still, and Steven Stolier with Raised Eyebrows; Over at the Egyptian theater two lovely ladies tap their toes in sinc with renown dance team the Nicholas Brothers on screen and then pose for a picture (center photo) with Stan Taffel and Tegan Summer. The girls are Cathie and Nicole Nicholas, granddaughters of Nicholas brother Feyard.

Friday had a lot going on. Clockwise from upper left: Rusty Frank with jitterbug dancer Jean Veloz display a dance pose; there were more authors today, Ian Whitcomb with his book Ukulele Heros, Mike Oldham with The Valentino Formula, Manny Pacheco with Son of Forgotten Hollywood Forgotten History, Actress Julie Adams with The Lucky Southern Star, Singer India Adams with her CDs, Jeff Codori with Colleen Moore: A Biography of the Silent Film Star, Miriam Nelson with My Life Dancing with the Stars; Rusty Frank with Jean Veloz; and in the center Actresses Jane Withers and Marsha Hunt who attended a screening of their film Gentle Julia.

Saturday included a celebrity screening and more. Clockwise from upper left: Samantha Egger was our special guest at a screening of Walk Don't Run and was interviewed by Anthony Slide afterwards; We had more authors including Bill Cassara with his book Vernon Dent Stooge Heavy; We had to daytime drama actresses with their books, Lisa Figus of General Hospital with her book The Merry Lives of Lisa, and Jeanne Cooper of Young and the Restless with her book Not Young, Still Restless, Cinecon president Robert S. Birchard with his book Pop Twenty: 20th Century Pop Culture, Marilyn Knowldon with Little Girl in Big Pictures; Family members of Comedian Bert Wheeler were in attendance at a screening of his film Hips Hips Hooray, they are granddaughter Bonnie LaBarber with husband Gary (on left) and great grandson Patrick Laurence with wife Kristen; Diane Serra Cary with her book What Ever Happened to Baby Peggy; and in the center is Samantha Eggar proudly holding her Cinecon Career Achievement Award

Sunday was a fun day with two celebrity screenings and in the evening was the Cinecon Career Achievement Award banquet.
